November rain is a time of the year that's hard to look forward to. The bright, flavorful leaves of Fall disappear. It can get dark, gloomy, or snowy if you are a lucky Northerner.
Although rain may keep many inside during the month of November, there are many rainy day activities you can propose to your friends and family to keep you sane and entertained. Here are some vacation spots, arts and craft ideas, and healthy indoor activities to help you get through November rain.
Vacation Spots
Blue Ridge Parkway
Because of the perfect weather and elevation, Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the only places in the U.S. along the East Coast where the final scene of vibrant reds and yellows of Fall are on display. This trip can be made for romance, photography, or escape, and the view is most vibrant in early November.
While visiting, catch some cool events like the Asheville Cinema Film Festival, Brown Mountain Lights Symposium, or the River District Artists Studio Stroll. Before you decide to make your trip, check out the NC fall color forecast to see if the weather is permitting.
Thanksgiving Parades and Events
Thanksgiving parades and events bring joy and festivity during November rain. These events are the biggest within their region. If you live within a reasonable distance of any of them, check them out! Each is a site worth seeing.
Northeast — Silver Spring, Maryland Thanksgiving Day Parade
Mid Atlantic — Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
South East — Carolina's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Midwest — McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Rocky Mountain — Eagle County, Colorado Beaver Creek Ski Resort for events
Southwest — Downtown Houston, Texas H-E-B Holiday Parade
Pacific North West — Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Argentina
November means spring time in Argentina. If traveling with family is something that you have done or enjoy doing during the holidays, this may be the perfect time to experience Buenos Aires while it's not so scorching hot. Read this article from the Lonely Planet about events, places, and weather in Argentina.
Arts and Crafts
Learn to Knit Gloves for Winter
Nothing is cozier and more meaningful than a hand-knit set of gloves. If you start now, you will have time to make an extra pair for yourself! Have fun picking out colors and buttons, and make it your own unique style.
Get Started on Greeting Cards
If you have friends and relatives abroad, it's likely that you need to start mailing and sending letters before the holidays arrive to make sure that they make it to your loved ones on time. Make things easier by purchasing cards, buying stamps, and organizing a list of recipients ahead of time.
Test Out a New Cookbook
Spend the time you have playing cards in the kitchen to cook as well. Cookbooks have hundreds of recipes that go to waste as most people find cooking ideas online. Dust off the old bound book and find some comforting old-fashioned dishes to suit you through the colder November rain days.
Healthy Indoor Activities
Vitamin D
Lack of sun during the month of November rain can mean that you are not getting enough vitamin D. Make sure that you are taking supplements to gather the correct amount of Vitamin D so that you don't become deficient. Rickets and osteomalacia are the classical vitamin D deficiency diseases, which no one wants. Take your vitamins and stay healthy.
Indoor Exercise
Indoor exercise can be accomplished by many things such as using home gym equipment, engaging in body exercises (such as yoga or Pilates), and video game simulations. Make sure that you are during the proper warm ups, cool downs, and stretches to prevent injury and prevent strained muscles.
Clean Out Your Pantry
Although this idea seems ballistic, you could rev up your motivation to clean your pantry if it was for the greater good for the community. Clean out any non-perishable food that has been sitting in your pantry for months, and donate it to your local food pantry.
Sleep in on November 7th
Daylight savings ends on this special night, which gives us an extra hour to snooze. Set your clocks back one hour, and catch up while you can. Scientists have gone to great lengths to fully understand sleep's benefits. In studies of humans and other animals, researchers have discovered that sleep plays a critical role in immune function, metabolism, memory, learning, and other vital functions. Get some rest!
