What's Not Covered?

Atlas Travel medical insurance is not designed to replace your primary healthcare or domestic insurance plans. There are reasons why your claim might not be approved. In general, pre-existing conditions are not covered as well as some of these conditions below.*

  • Pre-existing illness or disability
  • Mental health disorders
  • Sexual health matters
  • Substance abuse
  • Self harm
  • Sports injury
  • Routine medical care
  • Drunk driving
  • Dental treatment except under a covered emergency
  • Elective or non-critical surgeries, e.g. medical tourism

How Does Emergency Medical Evacuation Work?

Emergency medical evacuation may be recommended when: 

  1. You're in a location without access to proper medical care.
  2. Local healthcare providers cannot treat your condition effectively.
  3. You need to be transferred to another country or your home country for appropriate treatment.
  4. An attending physician—along with our assistance team—determines evacuation is medically necessary.
  5. Your safety and well-being come first, and our 24/7 travel assistance team will coordinate care if evacuation is approved.

Here’s what you can expect if you need to be evacuated during your trip:

Call our travel assistance team right away. They’ll review your situation and coordinate care. 

  1. Your medical condition is assessed. If evacuation is medically necessary, our team arranges transport to the closest facility capable of providing appropriate treatment. 
  2. Transportation is arranged. Depending on your condition, this could include ambulance service, helicopter transport, or an air ambulance with medical staff on board. 
  3. Ongoing support. We’ll help with hospital coordination, provide updates to your loved ones, and support any necessary return travel.

  2. If needed, contact Travel Assistance Services.
  3. Sign up for your Member Portal.
  4. If needed, submit a claim with supporting documentation.
  5. Let our claims team assess your situation.
  6. Wait for a determination of your claim.
  7. Disbursement of any eligible benefits.
