What Does the Rental Car Damage and Theft Upgrade Cover?

If you opt into this benefit upgrade, you canbe reimbursed (up to the limit shown in your Schedule of Benefits) if your rental car is:

  • Damaged due to collision, theft, vandalism, weather events (like hail or flooding), fire, or any other cause outside of your control.
  • Stolen and not recovered.

You can be reimbursed for the lesser of the following:

  1. The reasonable and necessary cost of repairs and rental fees charged by the rental company while the car is being repaired.
  2. The actual cash value of the rental car.
  3. The maximum benefit listed in your Schedule of Benefits.

Who Qualifies for This Coverage?

To be eligible for reimbursement, you must:

  • Be listed on the rental contract.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license for the vehicle being rented.

Note: This coverage is only available for private passenger vehicles (including minivans and SUVs) rented from a rental car agency for use on public roads.

 

What Is Not Covered?

The upgrade excludes losses caused by:

  • Any vehicle not covered under the definition of a “rental car” (e.g., trucks, trailers, motorcycles, or exotic vehicles with an MSRP over $75,000).
  • Violations of the rental agreement.
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Use of the vehicle in speed competitions, illegal trade, or for hire.
  • Damage resulting from mechanical failure, wear and tear, or negligence.
  • Failure to report the incident to the rental company or local authorities.
  • Any damage to other vehicles, property, or persons.

 

What to Do If an Incident Occurs

If your rental vehicle is damaged or stolen, here are the steps you need to take to submit a claim:

  1. Take all reasonable steps to prevent further damage.
  2. Report the loss to local authorities and the rental agency as soon as possible.
  3. Collect information from any other parties involved.
  4. Submit supporting documentation to WorldTrips, including:
    • A copy of the rental agreement.
    • A police report (if applicable).
    • Any damage estimates or invoices.
