What is Holiday Travel Medical Insurance?

Holiday travel medical insurance is insurance that provides international health coverage to those traveling abroad for the holidays. It typically offers coverage for the treatment of unexpected injury and illness, emergency medical evacuation, emergency travel, accidental death, and some travel mishaps (like the airline losing your checked luggage).

A holiday travel medical insurance plan like Atlas Travel insurance can provide access to quality healthcare, medical coverage, and travel assistance as well as coverage for travel complications like interruptions and delays.

Why Do I Need Holiday Medical Travel Insurance?

Though undeniably exciting, international travel can still pose a risk to travelers. Here are 3 reasons to consider a holiday insurance plan for your adventure abroad:

Illness or Injury

No matter the destination you choose or the activities you plan, there’s always a chance you could encounter a travel mishap, accident, or illness that calls for global insurance coverage. After all, overseas vacations can expose travelers to such factors as new environments, unfamiliar foods, and foreign bacteria.

Domestic Insurance Limits

Your domestic health plan may not cover you outside of your home country or your international coverage may be very limited. If your insurance does not apply beyond your home country, then holiday travel medical insurance can pick up where your domestic coverage leaves off.

Visa Requirements

Your visa may require travel medical insurance or proof that you’ll be able to pay for unexpected expenses incurred in your host country. A holiday travel plan like Atlas Travel from WorldTrips meets the requirements of many different visas, including Europe’s Schengen visa. Atlas Travel conveniently provides policyholders with a visa letter to serve as proof of coverage.

Did You Know?

Over 56% of Americans are unsure whether their domestic health plan would cover emergency medical care outside the U.S., according to a survey from Insure My Trip.

The eggnog you purchased from a Christmas market in Vienna results in a serious bout of food poisoning that requires inpatient hospitalization.

Medical emergencies are scary enough when you’re in your home country, let alone a foreign country where you’re not familiar with the healthcare system – and you may not even speak the language. With a holiday travel medical insurance policy like Atlas Travel, you’ll be covered for the cost of a local ambulance to transport you to the hospital as well as hospital room and board for covered injuries or illnesses that result in hospitalization. You’ll also have access to provider referrals and translation services available in multiple languages 365 days a year.

You’re exploring the white-sand beaches of an Indonesian island when you fall and become seriously injured.

You’re taken to the local emergency medical facility, but the facility cannot provide you with the life-saving medical treatment you need. Luckily, you’re covered under Atlas Travel’s Emergency Medical Evacuation benefit, which covers the cost of transporting you to a nearby hospital that’s properly equipped to treat you.

You’ve just touched down in your holiday destination when you receive the devastating news that a member of your immediate family has passed away.
Atlas Travel’s Trip Interruption benefit can cover the cost of an economy, one-way plane ticket to return you to the terminal nearest your principle residence in your home country.

After arriving at the airport for your initial departure, bad storms cause your evening flight to bedelayed until the following morning.

Rather than staying at the airport overnight and being exhausted for your early morning flight, you decide to get a hotel room. Not only do you now have to pay hotel costs that weren’t factored into your budget, but costs for extra meals eaten, as well. Under your Atlas Travel plan’s Travel Delay benefit, you’ll be reimbursed up to $100 a day for reasonable accommodations and meals incurred as a result of your covered, 12-plus hour delay.

While on your Parisian dream vacation, you discover that your rental has been broken into and yourluggage has been stolen.

You have no idea how to go about acquiring a new passport and the language barrier is making it difficult for you to file a police report. With a policy like Atlas Travel, you’ll have access to travel assistance services available in multiple languages 365 days a year. Our operators can provide you with travel, legal, and foreign language assistance and help you to obtain a new passport and travel documents.
